Tyranny of the Minority

Justice Marion Cohen, when she recently ordered the removal of the traditional Christmas tree from a Toronto courthouse lobby for fear of offending a Muslim, Jew, Sikh, Buddhist, Atheist, Native Canadian, Animist, Hindu, neo-pagan,  perhaps a visiting Martian and just about any other non Christmas celebrating creature in the universe,  gave us yet another example of how Canada officially sanctions the “tyranny of the minority” over the vested rights of the majority in this nine province nation.

How about the twisted, convoluted, world of Quebec and how its 4 million uni-lingual French speaking citizens coerce and otherwise trample on the rights and privileges of the 28 million English speaking people in their province and across Canada?  And what about Quebec’s 75  parliamentary seats and how they are endlessly used as a blunt instrument to refract the natural flow of common sense and justice into a blend of political and economic nonsense for the vast majority?

The law of unintended consequences has struck this land with a vengeance.  We really have become a nation of political correctness, social engineering and multi culturalism run amok, including rights  ad infinitum for prisoners, students, immigrants legal and otherwise, every human  culture, language, age, size, colour, organization and need, just like our politicians have legislated and the courts have upheld for the past 50 years.

Why do so many think its unimportant that common sense and majority rights have atrophied to the point of inconsequential consideration by people like Justice Cohen?

You are absolutely spot on. Well done. I hope the people in Ottawa wake up some day..but I doubt they will...

Canadians by and large are influenced by what they are taught in school and read/hear in the CBC media.
It's no wonder why we have become a passive society.
We have lost the the right to vote on anything anymore. The government has taken it away.
We can vote for an MP but they are not accountable for anything promised and can even switch parties without challenge.

Very interesting: will visit your blog often; "Tyranny of Minority" applies also to Europe...
